The COVID-19 lockdowns have many employees feeling liberated from the office. According to LinkedIn’s Workplace Confidence Index, an average 55% of U.S. professionals now think their industry can effectively work from home.
The optimism runs higher in more digitally focused fields such as software/IT, finance, and media, averaging at least 76%.
Employee enthusiasm builds when asked if they personally can be effective in a remote work setting – 65% responded positively. Even professionals in some normally “high-touch” sectors think they can work from home just as well including recreation & travel (50%) and retail (44%).
Denise Leaser, President of GreatBizTools, developer of assessment tools WebAssess and MyInnerGenius, says that this shift to telecommuting is great news for everyone.
“The move toward work-from-home has the potential to truly democratize the workforce by creating opportunities for people, especially those in disadvantaged communities.”
Employers can now fill positions with anyone who is qualified, not just because they live in a specific zip code.
“But how will employers know who is best suited for telecommuting?” she asks. “Who really has the skills, the personality traits and the discipline to deliver results long-term?”
Leaser says a pre-hire assessment tool like WebAssess can take the guesswork out of talent acquisition by using a scientific, non-biased process to find the right people for the right jobs.
“While it’s unclear when offices will fully re-open, WebAssess does a better job of screening candidates remotely right now than you can with in-person techniques,” she adds. “Employers also get the added bonus of saving time – and a lot of money.”
